ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A 40-year-old Fairview Heights man died after a car crash in West Alton on Thursday.

The crash occurred along southbound U.S. Highway 67 north of Riverlands Way around 4:20 a.m., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash report said the driver overcorrected and began to slide along the road. The SUV crossed to the other side of the road and careened off the right side.

The car struck a sign, then slid down a grassy embankment, flipped over and hit the ground multiple times.

The 40-year-old man was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car, according to the report. He was pronounced dead at the crash scene.
