'He is a menace to society': MPA president blasts possible release of 2022 MKE police station shooting suspect Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Nidhi Kashyap determined that 28-year-old Darreon Parker-Bell is a candidate for conditional release. Watch Above: 2022 coverage of MPD District 5 Shooting A Milwaukee County judge is weighing conditional release for Darreon Parker-Bell, who opened fire inside Milwaukee Police District 5 on February 25, 2022, an incident that led to the installation of bullet-resistant glass in all police station lobbies across the city. Parker-Bell, then 24, entered the police station near Vel R. Phillips and Locust and began firing. Civilians in the lobby took cover, and an officer narrowly avoided being shot while attempting to return fire. Parker-Bell was arrested outside the station that same day. Prosecutors charged Parker-Bell with recklessly endangering safety. According to a criminal complaint, Parker-Bell admitted to the shooting, stating he was upset over the death of his friend, Keishon Thomas, who had died in police custody the week prior. At a plea hearing, Judge Nidhi Kashyap ruled that Parker-Bell was not criminally responsible, finding that he lacked the ability to appreciate the wrongfulness of his actions. She ordered him to serve 30 years in a state mental health facility. Now, four years later, Judge Kashyap has determined that Parker-Bell is a candidate for conditional release, pending a treatment plan from the health department. Milwaukee Police Association President Alex Ayala expressed frustration over the possibility of Parker-Bell's release. This person is a menace to society, Ayala said. He literally starts firing rounds indiscriminately to anybody inside of the police station. I just don't know how that translates to he can get out four years later. We're going to plan on going there on the date on the next court date to definitely let the judge know that the Milwaukee police officers are displeased with this decision. Parker-Bell is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 7 for a status conference. T #wisn #crimewatchmilwaukee
