their family's doing. It doesn't matter to a typical person unless when they open their wallet, they see that they're better off. And I think that right now the average American is way, way better off because of our policies. The poll also shows more Americans blaming Trump's policies for high prices than blamed President Joe Biden's policies ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. About 65% now say Trump's policies are more responsible for persistently high costs than outside factors. In October 2022, 44% said Biden's policies were more responsible for high prices. Among Americans' biggest concerns are food and gas prices. About half said they are highly concerned about being able to afford food, and about half said the same about filling their gas tanks. Changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, also took effect Oct. 1. Maximum benefit levels are increasing under the program's annual inflation adjustment. At the same time, states are now responsible for a larger share of the cost of administering SNAP, with their share rising from 50% to 75% under the tax and spending law Trump signed last year. That shift does not directly reduce a family's SNAP benefit, but it significantly increases the share states must pay to operate the program.
