MIRAMAR, Fla. - Police are searching for a suspect in the theft of luxury handbags and other items from South Florida social media influencer Coach Stormy Wellington after authorities acknowledged they initially arrested the wrong man in the case . Leer en español Wellington said Thursday that she has since discovered additional items missing from her home, including two Chanel bags and an expensive Versace dress. Miramar Police Department made the error, Wellington said in an interview with Local 10's Rosh Lowe on Friday. It was never a mistake or a question who took the bags. Miramar police said they previously arrested a 31-year-old fashion stylist in connection with the theft of Wellington's belongings, which were initially valued at $271,938.60. Police later determined the wrong person had been arrested because the man they took into custody and the person suspected of taking Wellington's property had the same first name. The man was released from jail after police notified the Broward County State Attorney's Office of the mistake. Wellington said she went back to provide additional information to authorities about the person she believes took her belongings. I went yesterday to do a new deposition to clarify who the person is that actually took my bags, she said. I'm not confused. Wellington said the person she identifies as the suspected thief was an employee who initially gave police a false name when questioned. He intentionally gave them a fake name, so I don't know if he knew the person, Wellington said. I don't know all of that, but he gave them a fake name. Police previously said five Hermès handbags and a Chanel water bottle were reported stolen from Wellington's home in August. They said items were later located at an Aventura business that resells authentic designer handbags and other luxury goods. According to an arrest report the suspected thief had brought the items to the business as a loan and defaulted on the arrangement, leaving Wellington unable to recover the property.
