MIRAMAR, Fla. - A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the theft of luxury handbags and other belongings from South Florida social media influencer coach Stormy Wellington , days after police acknowledged they had initially arrested the wrong person. Leer en español Jail records show Shaquille Jaray Palmer was arrested late Friday night by officers with the Miramar Police Department and is facing a felony charge of first-degree grand theft of $100,000 or more. The arrest comes after MPD officials acknowledged that a 31-year-old man had been wrongfully arrested in the case. That man was later released after police determined investigators had arrested the wrong person. Police said the initial mix-up stemmed from information involving people with the same first name. Miramar Police Chief Delrish Moss previously said authorities had issued a warrant under the wrong name after information was provided to investigators in September. Wellington had told Local 10 News that she was not confused about who she believed was responsible for taking her belongings. She said she returned to police to provide additional information and identify the person she believed took the items. Police previously said five Hermès handbags and a Chanel water bottle were reported stolen from Wellington's home in August. The property was initially valued at $271,938.60. Authorities later said some of the items were found at an Aventura business that resells authentic designer handbags and other luxury goods. According to an arrest report, the person suspected of taking the belongings had brought the items to the business as part of a loan arrangement and defaulted, leaving Wellington unable to recover the property. Wellington has since reported additional missing belongings, including two Chanel bags and an expensive Versace dress. She previously said the situation was particularly frustrating because she believed the person responsible was someone she had trusted.
