MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Tips to the 901-528-CASH are credited for the arrests of five homicide suspects last month.

Representatives with CrimeStoppers of Memphis and Shelby County announced Wednesday that three citizen tips helped authorities identify suspects, and two tips provided the locations of suspects at large.

 People hear things. Could be at a party where somebody is brash and decides to brag, or it could be that they saw somebody on Facebook talking about a case,  said executive director David Wayne Brown.

All five murder suspects were arrested in July.

 This is the largest number of solved homicide cases due to tips in one month's time in our memory,  said Brown.

Suspects who tipsters helped police identify include:

Jetarius Young, 28, for the shooting death of a man in South Memphis on June 25.

Dewaun Harris, 27, for the shooting death of a security guard at the Paradise Lounge on July 12.

Kenneth Riley, 17, for the shooting death of a man and hiding his body in November of 2025.

 I talk to a lot of families of homicide victims, and they're constantly looking for closure, and often, they can't get it,  said Brown.

CrimeStoppers reports that 17 tips have led to charges and arrests in homicide cases so far this year.

 I think people are thinking more about the need to fight crime. Some of it is just, the stars are aligned, and the right person knows the right thing at the right time, and they decide to call 528-CASH,  said Brown.

Brown said they are on track for yet another record-breaking year.

 Two years ago, there were 25 homicide cases that were solved as a result of a tip. Last year 24. Now, running ahead of that, which is great! We're at 17,  said Brown.

Brown said they also had tips regarding other felony cases for the month of July, including kidnapping, aggravated assault, and even domestic violence.

Brown said they paid out a total of $18,700 for the month.

In a statement, Memphis Police Department officials said they are grateful for the longstanding partnership.
