MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis police are investigating a shooting in Midtown on Tuesday morning that left a man dead.

According to neighbors, the suspect and the victim were coworkers for an HVAC company.

Ashton Williams, 21, is now behind bars and charged with voluntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, property theft, and marijuana possession with the intent to distribute.

The shooting happened just before 11:15 a.m. at a home on Roland Street. The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

Police say Williams was detained at the scene for questioning before being charged. The victim has not yet been identified.

Neighbors told Action News 5 that HVAC employees were working on an air conditioner at the home before the shooting happened.

A neighbor said he heard the two men arguing about tools outside the home, then a fight happened, and then that's when one employee allegedly shot the other.

 You know, because you just never know what is going to happen. I was just thinking, it is sad. They both just left to go to work and neither one of them will return home,  said Dorthy Gibbs.

Gibbs said the homeowner whose air conditioner was being repaired called her, screaming.

 My neighbor called, and she was screaming and hollering,  This man killed this man in the yard!'  said Gibbs.  When she said it, it just kind of knocked me off of my feet because I'm like,  Shot?' You know, I am just in the kitchen preparing my mother's breakfast. 

No bond or hearing information is available for Williams at this time.
