Culver City announced today the suspension of the Culver CityBus service throughout the weekend in response to the fatal shooting of a bus operator. The driver was shot and killed around 5:15 p.m. Thursday near Centinela Avenue and Washington Boulevard in Mar Vista by an intoxicated passenger in an apparent altercation over a wrong turn, according to police. Police are searching for the suspect of the shooting, who took his bicycle out of a rack in front of the bus and rode away after the shooting, according to media reports. The victim has not yet been identified. Police said responding officers located a man in his 40s at the scene, who sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The city said it will provide crisis support services to its staff following the shooting.
