CHANNELVIEW - A resident who let dogs into the backyard early Thursday morning ended an all-night manhunt in East Harris County. The dogs wouldn't stop barking toward the tree line off West Brentwood. When the homeowner spotted movement near an outdoor storage shed, they called 911. Minutes later, deputies and federal marshals surrounded the outbuilding. KPRC Channel 2 has exclusive video of when Chase Layne Patin walked out with his hands up, ending an 11-hour dragnet that locked down quiet residential streets, involved a stolen cruiser and sent a sheriff's deputy to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. How the Night Unfolded Around 8 p.m. Wednesday, three deputies arrived at a house in the 1100 block of Bayou Drive, just off the East Freeway, to handle a domestic dispute. Shots were fired. One deputy went down with a leg wound and Patin jumped into one of the marked squad cars and sped off. He abandoned the cruiser about a mile away near Dell Dale Street and fled on foot into the surrounding subdivisions. For Channelview families, that meant waking up to squad cars lining street corners, flashing strobe lights against bedroom blinds, and tactical teams combing backyards. Precinct 3 deputies, county investigators and U.S. Marshals went door to door, asking neighbors to keep floodlights on and check deadbolts. I'm grateful for the outstanding work of our deputies, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez posted after the arrest, noting investigators worked continuous shifts from the initial call through sunrise. The Backyard Bust By daybreak, investigators suspected Patin remained pinned down inside the perimeter. When dispatchers took the call about the barking dogs on West Brentwood, law enforcement moved fast. Teams evacuated residents from a home next door before closing in on the shed. Patin surrendered without drawing weapons. Paramedics checked him over at the scene, and deputies drove him to the downtown interrogation division on Lockwood Drive. Officials confirmed the people living in the home had no ties to Patin. Active Warrant on File While neighbors expressed relief th #click2houston #crimewatchhouston
