A Detroit man and Persian Gulf War veteran who allegedly robbed three people at gunpoint while dressed as a federal agent at a Roseville motel has been charged, prosecutors said.

And records show this wasn't the first time he used the ruse.

Tremain Vernon Jones, 55, was arraigned on multiple felony charges on Friday, Sept. 25, in 39th District Court in Roseville. Judge Kathleen E. Tocco set bond at $750,000.

According to police and prosecutors, the armed robbery at Victory Inn on Little Mack Avenue took place July 31 when someone dressed as a U.S. Marshal pulled out a weapon and robbed three people.

 Robbing someone at gunpoint is a serious and frightening crime, and allegedly disguising yourself as a federal law enforcement officer to carry it out makes these accusations particularly disturbing,  Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a news release.

Prosecutors said Jones is charged with:

Three counts of armed robbery

Five counts of felony firearm

Two counts of impersonating a peace officer to commit a crime

In addition, Jones is charged with being a habitual offender - fourth offense notice, which comes into play during sentencing.

If convicted on the most serious charge, he faces up to life in prison.

Jones - who also goes by the alias  Papa Bear  - has a lengthy rap sheet and was just discharged from parole in August, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC).

Corrections records show he has been sent to prison three other times for impersonating a law enforcement official while committing a crime in Macomb and Wayne counties.

In total, Jones has 17 arrests for which he served prison time, according to MDOC. His past offenses included armed robbery, kidnapping, carjacking, and fraud.

Corrections officials said he has a scar on his right hand as the result of being shot during the Persian Gulf War in 1991, where he was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Jones is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause conference on Oct. 7 before Judge Joseph F. Boedeker.
