MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. - A man accused of ramming his car into a police cruiser at the Roseville Police Department and approaching officers with a knife has pleaded no contest to his charges. Daniel Minnick, 37, was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and malicious destruction of fire or police property. Previous coverage --> Roseville man rams car into police cruiser, approaches officers with knife, authorities say According to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, Minnick waited in his car at the Roseville Police Department on Oct. 13 at around 4:30 a.m. until three officers left the station and went into their patrol cars. Minnick then allegedly rammed his car into an officer's car, injuring the officer. When police approached him, they saw Minnick was allegedly armed with a large knife. After he refused to drop the knife and ran towards an officer, police shot Minnick. On Sept. 17, Minnick pleaded no contest to his charges. Judge Matthew P. Sabaugh accepted his plea under a Cobbs agreement of no incarceration. A Cobbs agreement is between the defendant and the judge in a case. This case has had life-altering consequences, including for the defendant himself. While his injuries may make incarceration unlikely, the seriousness of his conduct cannot be overlooked. His no-contest plea acknowledges his responsibility, and the court will determine the appropriate sentence, said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido in a statement.
