DETROIT - The case against a Detroit man accused of crashing his motorcycle while intoxicated and leaving his 1-year-old daughter - who was an unsecured passenger - injured at the scene, has been dismissed. According to court records, the charges against 35-year-old Kabamba E. Kyalangalilwa were dismissed on Thursday after the complaining witness failed to appear. The crash occurred on June 28 near the 12800 block of Braile Street in Detroit. Prosecutors alleged that Kyalangalilwa brought his daughter to a party in the area around 11:30 a.m., and some time later, left his daughter in the care of unfamiliar neighbors so she could swim with their children while he returned to the party. Investigators say he returned on his motorcycle intoxicated approximately five hours later, and attempted to ride away with his daughter while she was unsecured. After driving off at a high rate of speed, Kyalangalilwa reportedly lost control, ejecting himself and his daughter from the bike and sliding into the roadway. Prosecutors say Kyalangalilwa then attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle before abandoning it and fleeing on floot, leaving behind his toddler who suffered multiple injuries including lacerations on her head, face and legs. He was later arrested and charged with one count of second-degree child abuse, one count of child abandonment, one count of fourth-degree child abuse, one count of driving with a suspended or revoked license, and one count of reckless driving. Upon issuing the charges, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in all the years she has served as a prosecutor and judge, she has never seen a set of facts like the ones laid out in this case. The alleged conduct of this defendant was way beyond atrocious and horrendous, she said. This poor baby deserved the appropriate care, dedication, and simple human decency. It is miraculous that she is still among the living. Local 4 reached out to Worthy for comment on the case's dismissal by 36th District Court Judge Shawn Jacque. #clickondetroit #CrimeInTheD ®
