SUMMERFIELD TWP, Mich. - A 47-year-old Monroe County man died in a motorcycle accident Sunday night after an unrestrained dog ran into the roadway, causing him to crash. Lance Dusseau, of Petersburg, Mich., was riding westbound on Ida West Road west of Summerfield Road in Summerfield Township around 9:20 p.m. - alongside a 19-year-old relative - when the dog entered the road from the south shoulder and ran into the left-side saddlebag of the 19-year-old's motorcycle. After getting struck, the dog was forced into the path of Dusseau's motorcycle, causing him to lose control before striking a residential mailbox on the southbound side and coming to rest. The 19-year-old, who was wearing a helmet, was able to come to a controlled stop on the south shoulder, according to the sheriff's office. He was not injured. Dusseau was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, he was not wearing a helmet and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Information about the dog's status after the collision and why it was unrestrained has not been shared by police. The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to reach out to Lieutenant Brian Quinn and Deputy Sheriffs Alec Preadmore and Steven Warren of the Traffic Services Division at 734-240-7541. #clickondetroit #CrimeInTheD ®
