Jennifer Lackard, the Mount Vernon police department's Deputy Commissioner of Public Safety, was arrested for attempted murder Tuesday for being the getaway driver when her gangbanger son opened fire near a Bronx courthouse, police sources said.

Lackard, 49, and her son, Chase Lackard, 20, were arrested when police at 5:30 a.m. showed up with a warrant at their home in the Soundview section of the Bronx, police said. Jennifer has been fired from her position  effective immediately,  the Mount Vernon Police Department said in a statement hours after her arrest.

Both mother and son were charged with attempted murder and conspiracy, police said, while Chase alone is charged with weapon possession.

Chase allegedly fired at a group behind the Bronx Hall of Justice near E. 162nd St. and Grand Ave. just before noon June 29, then jumped in a car driven by his mother, police said. No one was struck.

The incident was linked to gang tensions, police said.

In November 2024, the son, who authorities say is a member of the  Slutty Gang,  was shot in Soundview by NYPD cops. Officers responding to a clash at the Stevenson Commons residential tower on White Plains Road near Lafayette Ave. saw him waving a gun, police said at the time.

Chase was shot twice in the leg by police after he allegedly pointed his 9 mm. pistol at officers, police said. He was later charged with criminal use of a firearm and menacing a police officer.

Three months earlier Chase was busted for carrying a loaded gun and was granted supervised release, sources said.

And in January 2023, when he was 17, Chase made headlines when he was shot in the chest on an MTA Bx5 bus in Soundview during a gang-related fight, police said at the time.

Jennifer has been a deputy police commissioner since 2020, when she was appointed by Mount Vernon mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard. She previously served on Bronx Community Board 9 and founded several organizations helping formerly incarcerated people re-integrate into society.
