An FBI intelligence report indicates Ebbinghaus was employed by Edwardsville High School as a choreographer for school plays. He also worked with The Factory STL and The Sheldon Arts Foundation, a non-profit art center with an educational component offering classes from Kindergarten to 8th grade.

Ebbinghaus continued to distribute child pornography in the Signal group chat, authorities allege. Court records estimate that he shared hundreds of images and videos through the group chat and with the undercover agent.

On June 11, a subpoena return from Telegram, another messaging app in which the agent was communicating with Ebbinghaus, for the username  Fistedboy  showed a phone number that matched Ebbinghaus'.
