ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The Fourth of July is less than two weeks away, and St. Louis Metropolitan Police (SLMPD) say they are already responding to fireworks calls throughout the city.

SLMPD said Monday that a man was shot after confronting a group shooting off fireworks.

 There is enough vigilance between the people that do live here and walk around and stuff that I think it eventually would be solved,  said Holden Bremley.

LaSalle Park resident Bremley is optimistic that a consistent barrage of fireworks will soon stop in his neighborhood.

He says recently, beginning in the afternoon and into the night, he hears steady pops somewhere in the vicinity of the Saint Raymond Apartments nearby that almost sound like a professional show.

 It was kind of that consistent, I thought it was more just scheduled,  said Bremley.

Monday, Alderwoman Jami Cox Antwi told First Alert 4 residents have complained about a group of juveniles shooting fireworks at themselves and at homes.

SLMPD says it escalated on June 14 when a resident confronted the group and was shot with non-life-threatening injuries.

 There are individuals who are armed and they are not afraid to fire off their guns,  said SLMPD spokesman Mitch McCoy.

McCoy is urging residents to not confront people shooting off fireworks and to call them instead.

In the past, police have posted major fireworks operations that they disrupted.

McCoy says while fireworks are a lower priority than shootings, they will respond and are already planning to have a team looking for illegal fireworks on the Fourth of July, and may have them out on July 3 as well.

He says they could even cite parents.

 That is something that officers would use at their discretion and we would charge parents when we see fit,  said McCoy.

Alderwoman Cox Antwi also saying some type of curfew is also on the table for LaSalle Park as we get closer to Independence Day.

And while he hopes it ends soon, Bremley is thankful those pops he hears aren't just gunshots.
