Video from the scene shows a black SUV appeared to be lodged in a specific room on the first floor of the 3-story hotel. Investigators were seen looking inside of the vehicle, and walking around it with a flashlight.

Earlier Thursday, police said additional information was being gathered and asked the public to avoid speculation, allowing investigators the time necessary to conduct a thorough and complete investigation.

One World Cup fan tells NBC10 Boston he had just arrived from the UK on Wednesday night to enjoy the FIFA festivities in Massachusetts when he heard the chaos unfold at the hotel where he was staying in the room above.

 I heard gunshots and then I looked out the window again and a lady had driven her SUV into the side of the hotel, and then she jumped out and was shouting, 'Where are you? Where are you?' And then shot three times quickly into the, seemed like into the hotel room, and then I heard smashing glass, and I think she maybe climbed into the room, and then there was loads of banging and stuff like she was trying to break down the door or something,  Stuart Mackelvie shared.

 There was like three ambulances, I think,  Mackelvie added.  I didn't see anyone getting taken away in handcuffs, so I don't know. 

The Sturbridge Police Department and Massachusetts State Police responded to 400 Haynes Street, the Sturbridge Plaza Hotel, around 12:55 a.m. Thursday following a report of a shooting. A black SUV crashed into the building there.

Several bullet holes were visible in the hotel's windows, and guests tell us they were terrified in the moment.

 I was so petrified for my life,  one woman said.

 I just heard some gunshots when I was asleep. It woke me up. I was afraid so I pulled my curtain,  said Melissa Mundne, adding that she hadn't stayed at the hotel before and has no plans to ever return.  I was afraid. I didn't sleep. I was so afraid. 

The hotel's general manager, Sam Patel, said all of the employees are OK.

There was crime scene tape up inside the hotel, and there was also yellow police tape cordoning off a large area of the hotel's parking lot. Many law enforcement vehicles had left the scene by 7 a.m., as things had quieted down from earlier, and the SUV was later towed from the hotel, leaving a gaping hole in the building that was boarded up.

The hotel is tucked behind a rest area right off of Interstate 84, just south of the Massachusetts Turnpike.

The Worcester County District Attorney's Office is involved in this investigation, which remains active and ongoing.
