BRENTWOOD, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Court documents said a St. Louis County couple stole $500,000 in merchandise from Home Depot over several years.

A probable cause statement filed in St. Louis County Circuit Court said Farhan Rasoul Zadeh Seisan and Sona Sharifinia have targeted Home Depot stores since 2018.

Brentwood police said in the statement that the couple resold the stolen goods on Amazon and eBay. Items included faucets, lighting fixtures, electrical components and other home goods.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has also launched an investigation into the couple for wire fraud and interstate transfer of stolen property, according to the statement. Seisan is an Iranian national, and Sharifinia was granted a U.S. green card.

The probable cause statement said Home Depot's retail crime department discovered their identity and the size of their scheme after an employee alerted a manager that Seisan was  creating unusual return activity. 

The statement said the scheme involved  will-call  orders placed at Home Depot's Pro Desk or customer service. Seisan would purchase a will-call order and leave with the receipt while employees pulled the items for later pickup.

Later the same day, Sharifinia would enter the store with the receipt, gather identical merchandise and leave without paying, according to the statement.

Documents said that the next day, Seisan would do the same. Seisan would then either pick up the paid will-call order or cancel it and receive a refund.

In instances where he picked up the order, the statement said the items were then returned in smaller batches at Home Depot stores across the country over the following days.

Court documents said that when Brentwood police executed a search warrant, officers discovered $84,000 worth of stolen products in the basement and garage.

Officers also discovered $13,000 worth of similar stolen items from Lowe's, according to court documents. Lowe's is beginning its own investigation and has discovered at least $100,000 in thefts so far.
