MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Shelby County Sheriff's Office has arrested and charged the CEO of a local nonprofit and his son on drug charges.

Lysander  Sam  Davis, 59, the CEO of the nonprofit Memphis Kings, has been arrested on drug charges along with his son, 26-year-old Trey Davis.

According to court documents, on June 9, narcotics detectives along with a K-9 detective with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office were scanning packages at a UPS sorting facility.

During the search, the K-9 detective sniffed out two packages, both with a strong odor of illegal drugs.

The court document says detectives later obtained a search warrant to search both boxes and discovered that both contained marijuana. Detectives conducted a field test of the packages, which came back positive for THC.

Law enforcement said one of the packages was en route to a home on Brower Street, while the other was supposed to be delivered to a home on Rutland Street.

SCSO says that while a detective surveyed the home on Brower Street, they noticed a man, later identified as Trey, exit his vehicle and take the package.

Court documents say that after the detective followed Davis, they received an alert that the package had been opened.

The detective then approached the home and detained both Trey and his father, Sam.

While searching the home, they found more grams of marijuana in Sam's bedroom closet, along with THC gummies, a handgun, gun magazines, and multiple rounds of ammunition.

Sam and his son were taken into custody and are now facing charges for drug possession with the intent to sell and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

Sam has been freed on a $30,000 bond. Trey has been freed on a $5,000 bond.

Sam is the head of Memphis Kings, an organization centered around helping young boys and girls through basketball and recreation.
