The girl, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Eddimar Paola Hernández Chacón, was walking down the sidewalk when a woman who did not know her approached and stabbed her in the back multiple times, police said. Family confirmed Eddimar and her older sister were seen in a surveillance photo taken moments before the attack. In surveillance video obtained by NBC Chicago, witnesses could be seen rushing over to what is assumed to be the area where the young girl was attacked. Ald. Michelle A. Harris, of the city's 8th Ward, said Eddimar and her 16-year-old sister were in the area to pay a phone bill at the Boost Mobile store. The sisters left the store and were followed out by the woman. Why the woman allegedly targeted them remained unclear Sunday afternoon. The baby is the innocent person in all of this. It's a tragedy… that a baby could lose her life while walking down these streets, Harris said. Eddimar's uncle remembers her as a cheerful little girl who loved to sing and dance. The suspect was taken into custody, but her name had yet to be released as of Sunday afternoon. #nbcchicago #crimewatchchicago
