An off-duty Chicago police officer shot two men during an altercation in the Little Village neighborhood Sunday morning. According to Chicago police, an off-duty officer was driving in the 2600 block of West 24th Street at approximately 12:48 a.m. Sunday when he engaged with a group that was standing on a nearby sidewalk. The officer then pulled out a weapon and shot the suspect twice, according to authorities. Another man was also struck in the arm, police said. The officer then drove a short distance down the street, stopped his vehicle and fired more shots at the group, according to Chicago police. The man who is accused of punching the officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment of his wounds, and was listed in fair condition. He is in police custody, according to authorities. The second man who suffered an arm injury was brought to an area hospital, and was listed in good condition. According to police, the officer was hospitalized for injuries suffered in the incident. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the shooting, and the officer will be placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of an investigation, in accordance with department policy.
