Pumpkin season is over before it even began for Meyer's Family Farm in Capron, Illinois. In a post on Facebook last Thursday, the farm's owners revealed that thieves had entered their field and stolen around 95 percent of their unpicked pumpkin crop. What we currently have picked is all that we have left for the season, the post read. According to the farm, pumpkin thefts have been impacting local farmers throughout the Poplar Grove and Capron areas. Meyers Family Farm said only their orange pumpkins were taken, and they still have specialty pumpkins, as well as various fruits and vegetables. Meyers also said that because of the thefts, they will be unable to offer pumpkin picking during their inaugural year as part of the Boone County Farm Stroll this weekend. We're incredibly disappointed that this happened, especially after all the time and work that goes into growing these crops, the farm wrote to customers. After their initial post earlier this week, Meyers Family Farm posted an update thanking its customers and fellow farmers for an outpouring of support in response to the thefts. Anyone with pumpkin orders from the farm will be contacted directly about a refund, owners said. The amount of support we have received has been absolutely incredible, and we are truly grateful for every message, comment, and kind word, the owners wrote. We also felt it was important to bring attention to the recent thefts in our area. We know of several other farms that have had people in their fields or have experienced theft themselves. #nbcchicago #crimewatchchicago
